2016 Studio Achievements

Central Dance Company

Congratulations to all the students (and families!) who took part in the 2016 CDC production of the Nutcracker. I was very pleased to see the matinee performance and was so proud of the 8 company members from our school as well as Miss Leanne who danced in the Russian National Character (with Miss Mariah).

I could clearly see the effort our students had been giving to their Sunday rehearsals throughout terms 2 and 3. I know our students have found the experience inspiring and I look forward to those students sharing their inspiration and company skills with others when they return to classes. I could see Amy, Mariah, Misty and Sze Yin were all very proud and excited to be part of Aleeta Blackburn’s new contemporary piece Apasionada.

During the Nutcracker, our seniors showed wonderful poise as ‘Snowflakes’. Amy and Misty were featured as Arabian dancers showing great versatility, balance and flexibility. Mariah and Sze Yin were very strong and stylish in the Spanish. Junior dancers from our school included Julia who was a very energetic Chinese dancer as well as Polichinelles (Candy Stripes). Gemma, Rachel and Peyton were also full of life as Polichinelles and then showed grace and dynamic during the Waltz of the flowers which our senior dancers also took part in. I am sincerely thankful to Miss Patti, Ramona, Miss Leanne, Alex, Margaret and all those involved in CDC for the opportunity they have given
our dancers.

Second annual Dance Improvisation Challenge

Our school held its second annual dance improvisation challenge on Saturday the 17th of September. This year six dancers took part. For three of our dancers, this was the first time they have ever attempted improvisations, and I would like to commend these dancers for their courage. We also had three seasoned improvisation students take part, and I am very impressed with their growing abilities in this area. I am positive that all dancers gained confidence, creativity, dance and performance abilities
from the experience.

Thank you to Maddison Mcleod for preparing the music and judging the challenge. Thank you also to all of the helpers: Grace and Mia Foskett, Miss Jade and Miss Mariah. Thank you also to the parents who helped on the day and supported their children to take part in the challenge.

Huge congratulations to Rhiannon Cox who played the role of the widow in the adventures of Tom Sawyer. Rhiannon really took on the character - I didn’t recognise her when she first appeared in the production. Her voice and body language were so true to her character. It’s great to see Rhiannon developing so much as an actress – watch this space!

Mid-year Display and 2016 Scholarships

I was delighted with the success of our mid-year display day. All of our students looked very impressive and so happy to be taking part, keep up the good work!

Thank you to all the families and friends of the school who came along and were so supportive of all of the students. I also appreciate having so many families help make the day possible by assisting with set-up, clean-up, helping the day run smoothly and helping with the canteen. The day was a real display of how wonderful our little dance school is!

A huge thank you to Miss Emma Tetley who undertook the very difficult job of choosing our scholarship winners. In my eyes, you were all deserving in your own way. Congratulations to; Rachel Sieders winner of the Jazz Scholarship, Gemma Montalbano winner of the Tap Scholarship and Peyton Leslie-Fitch winner of the Ballet Scholarship. I would like to commend all students who took part on their good sportsmanship on the day and over this past week. I feel the event catered for those students who were taking part for fun as well as those students who have been working hard towards the competitive side of the day. It is natural to feel disappointed when you miss out but I have been very pleased that students have been supportive and warm towards the winners. I am also aware of a number of students who are using the outcome of the day as motivation to keep working hard towards their own dance goals – wow!
